Manteno students team up for 3000 acts of kindness

Students thought they'd just be spending another day in classes when they arrived at Manteno High School on Thursday. When they left each had a unique T-shirt, a smile on their face and perhaps a tear in their eye.

By Friday, the community started to notice what had happened — the school of 653 students had dedicated themselves to committing 3,000 random acts of kindness within the next month. So they paid for fast-food orders for the next person in line, shared compliments with others and even picked up garbage.

"It was a great day that I don't think our students will ever forget," said Roger Schnitzler, Manteno High School principal. "We're already getting stories of kids doing good in the community."

An inspirational assembly set the tone for positive behavior and understanding throughout the school year.

The event was sponsored by Fuse Salon in Manteno and several other area businesses that donated money, services and even tables to be sure each student got a unique tie-dye T-shirt.
